About Douglas Brown

By day I am a certified public accountant, but by night, I’m an avid writer and historian. Writing is my greatest passion, and I’ve been doing it for the vast majority of my life. From writing poetry in 1st grade, to creating comics in between classes in high school, to writing novels, to—most recently—writing internet posts on military history, I have always been writing.

I am a lifelong learner, but my four favorite topics are history (preferably military), theology, biology, and mythology. I live in Texas, but I am proud of my ancestry from all over the British Isles (Scotland, England, Ireland, and Wales) and enjoy working it into all my writing. I can’t write a book, it seems, without at least one Scottish character, at least one Robert Burns quote, and at least one Gaelic proverb from Donald MacIntosh.

“Writing is my passion.”

My favorite genre to write is historical fantasy. I like to weave characters from mythology into historical time periods. I am also at home with historical fiction. Most recently, I have been working on the Ranald MacKenzie spy series, which is set in pre-WWI Europe.

I firmly believe that the purpose of art is to glorify God by expressing His truth in new, creative, and edifying ways. I am a firm believer in what the Westminster Shorter Catechism says: “Man’s chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy Him forever.” The reason I enjoy researching and writing can be summed up by Psalm 114:2: “The works of the LORD are great, sought out of all them that have pleasure therein.”

On one of the rare occasions that I’m not working or writing, I’m probably glorying in God’s creation with the latest series by BBC Earth, singing a British folk song or learning a new one, or playing with my niece.
